Reduced garden furniture demand dents sales at department store

Family owned department store retailer Dawsons has reported a decline in sales and profit.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 30 September 2022, total sales fell 9% to £46.5m from £51.2m in 2021. Pre-tax profit resulted at £1.8m, down from £2.9m recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, Dawsons said that sales declined due to a reduction in online sales, in particular garden furniture and barbecues.

Dawsons, which operates across stores in Clitheroe and Skipton, as well as several websites including Garden Furniture World and Just Linen, said that its balance sheet remains strong and that gross profit margins increased to 32% from 31%.
