Irish markets deliver growth at Harvey Norman

Furniture and electronics retailer Harvey Norman has reported a growth in both its Irish markets as overall revenues declined.

According to its latest trading update for the period from 1 July 2023 to 25 November 2023, sales in Northern Ireland were up 2.8% against the same period last year, while revenues in Ireland rose 8.6%.

As for the group as a whole, which covers countries including New Zealand, Slovenia, Croatia, Singapore, Malaysia and its native Australia, total sales were down 7.8%, driven by a decline of 11.6% in its home franchise market.

Sales in Slovenia & Croatia were up 2.9%, while Singapore and Malaysia reported respective upticks of 5.1% and 2.1%. New Zealand sales were down 2.6%.

“During the current period, one franchised complex was opened on 3 November 2023 at Belconnen. In Malaysia, four new company-operated stores were opened during the period located at Shah Alam, Selangor, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Pavilion Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur, and Kuantan, Pahang, bringing our total number of stores in Malaysia to 32 as of the date of this announcement,” the group said.
