Creditors of 26 furnishing businesses owed over £5m

In the latest Insolvency Digest, creditors of 26 furnishing businesses entering liquidation or administration are expected to suffer a combined shortfall of £5.2m.

Dean Watson and Paul Stanley, both of Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP, were appointed as joint liquidators of kitchen and bedroom furniture manufacturer MA Kitchens & Bedrooms Ltd on 16 November 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £63,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £88,000, with £39,000 owed to a Lloyd’s Bank Bounce Back Loan following the Covid pandemic. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £142,000.

Claire Dowson and Ian Royle, both of Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture retailer Furniture Express Stockton Ltd on 16 November 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims over £2,400, while the HMRC is also owed £19,000. As for unsecured creditor claims, these totalled £161,000, with £32,000 owed to a NatWest Bounce Back Loan following the Covid pandemic, as well as £36,000 owed to consumers. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £183,000.

Anthony Hyams of Insolve Plus Ltd, was appointed as liquidator of furniture retailer Dotcom Living Limited on 14 November 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £11,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £59,000, with £40,000 owed to NatWest Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £67,000.

Jamie Playford, of Leading, was appointed as liquidator of carpet retailer Redbridge Carpets Ltd on 22 November 2023. The business owed unsecured creditors £66,000, with £50,000 owed to Santander Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of the entire amount.

Richard Simms, of F.A Simms & Partners Limited, was appointed as liquidator of kitchen furniture manufacturer Showcase Kitchens Ltd on 15 November 2023. The business owed unsecured creditors £89,000, with £30,000 owed to employees and £18,000 owed to Lloyds Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £91,000.

Eileen Sale, of Sale Smith & Co. Limited, was appointed as liquidator of carpet business Michael Peters Limited on 21 November 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims over £4,000, while the HMRC is also owed £1,200. As for unsecured creditor claims, these totalled £38,000, with a further £24,000 owed to employees. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £44,000.

Edward Avery-Gee and Daniel Richardson, both of CG&Co, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture manufacturer Bespoke Furniture Frames Limited on 27 November 2023. The business owed unsecured creditors £26,000, with £14,000 owed to HSBC Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £27,000.

Lisa Alford and Chris Parkman, of Purnells, were appointed as joint liquidators of lighting retailer PAB Lighting Ltd, trading as Fusion Lighting, on 16 November 2023. The business owed unsecured creditors £32,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £22,000.

Alan Clark, of Carter Clark, was appointed as liquidator of furniture manufacturer Stuff Over Frames Limited on 23 November 2023. The business owed unsecured creditors £59,000, with £32,000 owed to Barclays Bank, while preferential creditor, the HMRC, is owed £81,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £128,000.

Steve Kenny and Richard Cole, both of KBL Advisory Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture retailer Arcot Interiors Limited on 22 November 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £100,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £333,000, with £40,000 owed to Santander Bank and £250,000 owed to Moor House Holdings. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £433,000.

Jo Watts and Andrew McTear, both of McTear Williams & Wood Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of joinery business Bryan Turner Kitchen Furniture Limited on 29 November 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims over £13,000, while the HMRC is also owed £45,000. As for unsecured creditor claims, these totalled £705,000, with a further £313,000 owed to employees and £122,000 owed to Funding Circle. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £764,000.

Sean Williams and Anthony Milnes, both of Leonard Curtis, were appointed as joint liquidators of flooring business All Floors Direct Ltd, formerly known as Leo Carpets Ltd, on 28 November 2023. The business owed unsecured creditors £46,000, with £36,000 owed to Virgin Money. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £37,000.

Simon Weir, of DSi Business Recovery, was appointed as liquidator of online furniture retailer Furniture Mill Outlet Ltd on 14 November 2023. The business owed unsecured creditors £32,000, with £21,000 owed to Barclays Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of the entire amount.

Eric Walls, of KSA Group Ltd, was appointed as liquidator of furniture retailer Furniture Company (Fulham) Limited, trading as Newcastle Furniture Company, on 29 November 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £23,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £143,000, with £40,000 owed to HSBC Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £166,000.

Jonathan Philmore, of Philmore & Co Ltd, was appointed as liquidator of kitchen furniture manufacturer Productive Promotions Ltd on 23 November 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £177,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £207,000, with £90,000 owed to Jomaro Installations, an intercompany loan, as well as £31,000 owed to Lloyds Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £377,000.

Nick Parsk and Kalani Gunawardana, both of Herschel House, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture retailer Gotham Notting Hill Limited on 30 November 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £8,700, which is expected to be repaid from realised assets valuing £12,750. Unsecured creditor claims totalled £40,000, with £29,000 owed to HSBC Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £37,000.

Matthew Russell and Gareth Lewis, both of Lewis Business Recovery & Insolvency, were appointed as joint liquidators of bespoke furniture manufacturer The Oak Touch Ltd on 30 November 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims over £7,500, while the HMRC is also owed £114,000 and Reward Capital is owed £116,000. As for unsecured creditor claims, these totalled £23,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £260,000.

Richard Hunt, of SFP Group, was appointed as liquidator of carpet retailer Lewis Carpets & Blinds Limited on 30 November 2023. The business owed unsecured creditors £12,500, which is owed in full to the HMRC and is expected to suffer a shortfall of the entire amount.

Christopher Brown and Emma Legdon, of Hart Shaw LLP, were appointed as joint liquidators of commercial furniture manufacturer All Bar None Ltd on 6 December 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims over £2,400, while the HMRC is also owed £19,600, with both expected to be repaid in full from realised assets valuing £98,000. As for unsecured creditor claims, these totalled £96,000, with Barclays Bank owed £25,000 and the HMRC owed a further £37,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £20,000.

Hayley Maddison, of Maidment Judd, was appointed as liquidator of carpet retailer Planbold Limited, trading as Kingfisher Carpets, on 4 December 2023. The business owed preferential creditor the HMRC £8,800, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £204,000, with Santander Bank owed £42,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £210,000.

Martin Buttriss and Carolynn Best, both of Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture retailer Belle Maison Boutique Ltd on 4 December 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims over £2,000, while the HMRC is also owed £1,000. As for unsecured creditor claims, these totalled £64,000, with a director’s loan owed £40,000 and one consumer creditor owed £770. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £64,000.

Sean Bucknall and Elias Paourou, both of Quantuma Advisory Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of office and shop furniture manufacturer James Tobias Limited on 5 December 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims over £58,000, which is expected to be repaid from realised assets valuing £183,000. Meanwhile, the HMRC is owed £511,600 and unsecured creditor claims totalled £1.3m, with employees owed £361,000 and the HMRC owed a further £208,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £1.7m.

Dorothy Brown, of Even Keel Solutions Ltd, was appointed as liquidator of furniture manufacturer Dovetail Designs Ltd on 7 December 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims over £2,000, while the HMRC is also owed £13,500, with both expected to be repaid from realised assets valuing £15,000. As for unsecured creditor claims, these totalled £88,000, with Barclays Bank owed £52,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £88,000.

John Butler and Andrew Nichols, both of Redman Nichols Butler, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture retailer L H Interiors Limited on 13 December 2023. The business owed preferential creditor the HMRC £33,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £22,000, with Howdens owed £10,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £56,000.

Michael Gregson, of TC Bulley Davey Limited, was appointed as liquidator of kitchen furniture retailer Hillberry Kitchens Ltd on 7 December 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims over £3,000, while the HMRC is also owed £3,600, with both expected to be repaid in part from realised assets valuing £5,800. As for unsecured creditor claims, these totalled £181,000, with Barclays Bank owed £25,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £182,000.

Vincent Simmons, of BV Corporate Recovery & Insolvency Services Limited, was appointed as liquidator of furniture retailer M&M (Staffs) Limited on 13 December 2023. The business owed unsecured creditor claims £64,000, with Lloyds Bank owed £37,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £60,000.
