UK searches of furniture during May were mixed as flooring rose, while searches within outdoor and garden furniture proved the most popular once again.
According to Google search data analysed by Big Furniture Group, four days during May 2024 saw ‘furniture’ searches record an index score of 90 or more, while a score over 80 came in at 11 days. The highest searched date was 5 May with a full score 100.
Google index’s its search data to 100. This means where 100 is the maximum search interest for the term selected, it is the highest value and indicates a high internet search.
The results saw related searches of ‘garden furniture’ a popular search, while more specific brand terms included ‘Dusk.com’, up 4,650%, ‘JYSK’, up 90%, and ‘The Range’, up 80%. Other popular terms included ‘sun lounger’, up 120%, and ‘studio garden furniture’, up 100%. The term ‘bedroom furniture’ registered an increase of 70%, while brands including Next, B&M, Laura James, Tesco, ASDA, B&Q and ALDI all saw a spike in searches in relation to garden furniture.
Other search terms Big Furniture Group reviewed included mattresses, bedroom furniture, dining furniture, living room furniture, sofas, carpets and flooring.
Mattresses
Mattress searches recorded three peak dates with an index score value of 90 or more. The highest searched date was 27 May with a full score of 100. Related brand searches saw Nectar, IKEA, Silentnight, Dreams and Argos all perform strongly, with ‘Nectar Mattress Memory Foam’ searches recording an uptick in searches of 160%. The term ‘toddler beds with mattress’ saw searches rise 70%, while ‘silent night mattress’ searches increased 60% and ‘cooling mattress topper’ rose 50%. Furthermore, the term ‘folding bed with mattress’ delivered searches of over 50% up, while ‘Dreams mattress sale’ searches were also popular.
Bedroom furniture
Bedroom furniture searches recorded one day of peak activity with an index value over 90. The highest searched date was 5 May with a full score of 100. Popular brand searches included Barker and Stonehouse, Wren, Laura James, The French Bedroom Company, Bensons for Beds, Leekes, Dusk and Wayfair. The terms ‘duvet cover’, ‘three piece bedroom furniture set’ and ‘bedside tables’ were breakout searches, while ‘white and gold bedroom furniture’ searches rose 1,700%. Meanwhile, ‘wardrobes’ searches rose 60%.
Dining furniture
Dining furniture searches recorded one day of peak activity with an index value over 90. The most searched day was the 12 May, which scored a full 100. Popular brand searches included Roseland, ScS, JYSK, B&Q, The Range, CFS Furniture, Dusk and Furniture & Choice. The term ‘patio dining set’ was a popular search, while ‘dining chairs set of 6’ and ‘outdoor dining furniture’ experienced high breakout searches. Other popular terms included ‘dining room furniture sets’, ‘space saving furniture’ and ‘solid wood dining table’.
Living room furniture
Living room furniture saw two peak days during the month. The most searched day was 3 May that scored the full 100 score. Popular brand related searches included ScS, Dunelm, John Lewis, Very, IKEA and Oak Furnitureland. The terms ‘chest of drawers’, ‘accent chair’ and ‘white gloss living room furniture’ all performed strongly, while ‘black living room furniture’ and ‘front room furniture’ searches were up 50% and 90% respectively.
Sofas
Sofa searches saw six peak dates, with the highest score of 100 recorded on 6 May. Popular related searches included ‘outdoor sofa’, up 50%, ‘replacement rattan sofa cushions’, up 190%, ‘garden corner sofa set’, up 90%, ‘rattan corner sofa set’, up 70%, and ‘3 piece sofa set’, up 90%. Other popular terms included ‘outdoor corner sofa’, and ‘2 seater sofas under £200’. As for brands, popular searches included Natuzzi, Sofa Club, Sofas by Saxon, Dusk, John Lewis, Fishpools, JYSK, La-Z-Boy, Sofa Workshop, DFS, Sofa.com and Swoon.
Flooring & Carpets
Flooring searches saw 12 days scoring over 90, with the highest dates being 27 May, scoring the full 100. Carpet searches saw 12 days scoring over 90, with the highest dates on 6 May and 26 May, both scoring the full 100. Popular brand searches included Flooring Direct, Topps Tiles, Amtico, B&Q, Tile Mountain, United Carpets, Carpetright, Cormar Carpets, Tapi and Calverts Carpets. Popular search terms included ‘vinyl flooring’, ‘bedroom flooring ideas’, ‘grey wooden flooring’ and ‘carpet protector for office chair’.
