Sales reflect expected decline at family furniture business

Family-run furniture store Andersons of Inverurie has reported a slight decline in sales as turnover remained over £10m.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 October 2023, total sales fell 7.3% to £11.3m from £12.2m in 2022.

Pre-tax profit resulted at £1.1m, remaining consistent with its profit of the same figure recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said: “The trading results reflect an expected decrease in activity levels as economic conditions puts pressure on household incomes and has led to a decrease in spending across the retail sector as a whole.

“Gross profit margin levels have been maintained and with profit before tax at a similar level to last year, the directors are satisfied that this has been a good year given the market conditions it is operating in.”
