Luxury rug maker collaborates with furniture designer

Artisanal and handmade luxury rugs maker Tai Ping has announced that award winning environmentalist, designer and maker Sebastian Cox, will create an installation at its showroom to launch the new Biophilic Collection and Biophilic Series for Studio by Tai Ping, debuting at London Design Festival 2024.

The installation will reflect on the natural beauty of raw materials as well as the remarkable craftsmanship and expertise that transforms them into refined works, celebrating Tai Ping and Sebastian Cox’s shared commitment to the environment and quality in design.

Sebastian Cox RDI is an award-winning furniture designer, maker and environmentalist driven by the past to design and make the future. He produces heirloom collections of furniture, lighting and home accessories; bespoke installations; landscape design and design for production.

Tai Ping’s six-decade long commitment to the environment is evident through the new Biophilic Collection and Biophilic Series for Studio by Tai Ping. The two new offerings made with undyed, natural and sustainable materials, honour the environment in design as well as function, taking inspiration from organic forms and landscapes. The 16 Biophilic carpets are engineered with aesthetics, durability and sustainability in mind, and celebrate natural phenomena, from organic patterns to the true colours of raw materials.

Bespoke installations crafted by Sebastian Cox in wood will complement the Biophilic rugs through material, colour, form and texture. The scenography will invite the viewer to revere the natural beauty of the raw materials, and their metamorphosis into covetable pieces for the home through artistry and craft.

Natasha Laing Bonwick, Tai Ping UK Country Manager says of the collaboration: “We are thrilled to collaborate with Sebastian Cox for LDF 2024. His dedication to sustainability and innovative design perfectly aligns with Tai Ping’s values and his own creative approach to sustainability complements these rugs perfectly. This installation not only showcases the beauty of our Biophilic Collection but also underscores our shared commitment to creating environmentally responsible and exquisitely crafted products.”
