Mattress maker grows sales and market share

The UK and Ireland division of Tempur Sealy International has reported another growth in sales and profit.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 December 2023, total Tempur UK sales rose 10.2% to £58m from £52.6m in 2022, further adding to its 3% rise from £51.1m in 2021.

Pre-tax profit resulted at £4.9m, up from £3.6m recorded the previous year, marking a consecutive year of bottom-line growth.

Stated within its report, the company said: “The year was very positive for the company with sales growth in all channels. Consumer demand for consumer durables remained subdued in 2023 but through strong execution of our business plan and continued investment in the Tempur brand, we were able to grow and gain market share in the UK.

“We are very pleased with this development and it was achieved by working closely with our retail partners and executing successful strategic marketing initiatives with them. Our brand advertising spend increased broadly in line with our sales growth.”

Tempur added that turnover from its retail partners, including its largest customer Dreams – which is owned by parent group Tempur Sealy International, was up 9% on last year, with 80% of sales coming through this channel.

As for its direct to consumer business, which accounts for 20% of turnover and operates through its online platform and 10 stores, ecommerce sales increased 23%. Own store sales delivered an uptick of 7% on last year, with the overall segment growing revenues by over 15% against the prior year.
