Furniture imports during June 2024 decreased on the same month last year while exports from the UK showed another month of growth.
According to the latest UK trade data, analysed by Big Furniture Group, total imports of furniture into Britain valued £700.4m in June 2024, down 1.4% from £710.4m against the same month the previous year.
Imports from the EU registered a decline of 8.1% to £332.1m from £361.6m. Imports from Italy were down 19% to £70.7m, while Polish imports rose 11.9% to £63.6m. Imports from Germany were up 12.9% to £56.6m.
As for outside the EU, total imports rose 5.6% to a value of £368.3m from £348.7m. Chinese imports were up 9.7% to £262.1m, while Vietnam rose by 44.9% to £21.6m. Imports from Morocco increased 26% to £12.3m, while the USA declined 17.1% to £18.9m, as did Turkish imports, down 23% to £11.7m.
Moving to exports, the total value of UK furniture leaving the country rose 3.3% to £200.2m from £193.8m year-on-year. In Europe, exports fell 4.1% to £97.6m from £101.8m, with exports to Italy down 45% to £3.5m as well as a 32% decline to the Netherlands at £6.6m. Exports to France rose 10% to £30.2m, while German exports increased 3% to £15.6m. Irish exports were down 3% to £20.7m.
Outside the EU saw exports increase 11.5% to £102.6m from £92m. Exports to China were down 46% to £2.1m, while UAE rose 21% to £8.5m. Exports to the USA rose 3.9% to £48.8m, while exports to India increased 216% to £5m, as did to Qatar, up 258% to £3.6m.
