Homeware sales rose on the high street, marking a twelfth positive result so far in 2024.
According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose by 1.23% for the week ending 11 August 2024.
Homeware total LFL sales grew by +0.35% this week from a base of +14.24% for the same week last year, which marks the category’s twelfth positive result so far in 2024.
Store homewares LFL sales dropped by -4.00% from a very healthy base of +28.02% for the same week last year, denoting the category’s twentieth negative result so far in 2024.
Total in-store LFL sales declined by -2.17% from a strong base of +12.91% for the same week last year. Total non-store LFL sales grew by +2.79% from a base of +2.28% for the same week last year.
Commenting on the results, BDO said: “Retail sales results were sustained this week by positive non-store sales and store results fell into the red.
“This week started out with grey and damp conditions as well as wet weather in north and western parts of the country before becoming warm and sunny during the weekend. The same week last year saw a mixed bag of sunshine, dry and wet conditions.”
Overall footfall declined by -1.9% compared to the same week last year. High street footfall dropped by -3.9% while shopping centres saw a -3.2% decrease 2%. Retail parks saw a different footfall outcome, increasing by +3.8%.
