Beds retailer delivers strong sales growth following re-focus

Beds and mattress retailer Mattressman has reported a growth in sales as turnover edged towards £30m.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 March 2024, total sales rose 11.1% to £24.9m from £22.4m in 2023.

Pre-tax profit resulted at £919,000, down from £6.4m recorded in the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said that during the period it decided to cease trading in outdoor furniture and re-focus on its core product lines of mattresses and beds. This led to higher levels of discounting in order to clear stock of garden products.

“Some key personnel hires have taken place in the year, most notably within the Marketing and Buying and Merchandising departments,” the company added.

“We have also undertaken a review of our store portfolio to identify the factors that contribute to our best performing stores, and we have a plan to roll out further stores to complement our existing estate where those factors exist.”
