Independent furniture store Studio Eleven has announced it will close in the coming months due to a decline in footfall.
The business, which is based on Crown Street in Darlington, opened just over a year ago but confirmed the closure over social media.
A statement from owner Zoe Edwards said: “It’s with a heavy heart that I write this post but after a lot of thought and consideration I’ve decided to close the shop. It’s not something I wanted to do however there is just no footfall now where we are located. Since Wilko closed last year, it’s had a massive effect on our business. We can go days without anyone stepping foot in the shop and we just don’t take enough money to cover the rent and bills.
“We have plenty of stock left which will be getting reduced along with the furniture. So, if you want a great Xmas present at a great discount then pop in and have a look. As for when we close the doors for good, I’m not too sure yet but I’m hoping to stay open till Xmas. (Depending on what stock we have left).
“It’s been an amazing 13 months and I’ll be sorry to close. I will continue to paint furniture at home and I will keep the page running for the foreseeable future. And who knows what the future holds for studio eleven. I’d like to thank everyone that has been in over the last year and supported us.”
