Homeware delivers eighth negative week but in store up again

Homeware sales declined on the high street again, marking an eighth negative week.

According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose by 4.65% for the week ending 5 June 2022.

Total Homeware LFLs fell by 2.46% this week, with in store sales rising by 8.7% from a strong base of +105% for the same week last year.

In store LFLs for homeware have been positive for two consecutive weeks, following six straight weeks of negative LFLs.

Total in-store LFL sales increased by +12.63% from a base of +2,251.65% for the same week last year. Total non-store LFL sales slumped by -6.90% from a positive base of +7.93% for the same week last year.

Commenting on the results, the BDO said: “This week saw a mixture of warm bright spells with cloudy skies and light showers in some parts of the UK as the country celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The same week last year week was majorly sunshine and warm with intermittent showers.”

Overall footfall grew by +11.8% this week compared to the corresponding week last year.

Footfall on the high street was up by +13.3%, while shopping centres saw footfall climb by +17.3% and retail parks saw +2.9% increase in footfall compared to the same week last year.
