IKEA looks to expand in Scotland with new store plans

Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has submitted plans to open a new store in Dundee.

According to a planning application submitted to Dundee City Council, IKEA plans to open a store on Kingsway West Retail Park, taking a unit next door to carpet retailer Tapi Carpets.

IKEA has been looking to step up its presence in Scotland and previously partnered with Tesco to launch a number of click and collect points in the supermarket car parks, with Dundee being one location.

The new store is understood to be a similar format to its order and collection point in Aberdeen and smaller than its other two main stores in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

IKEA also operates other Tesco collection points in Ayr, Bellshill, Dumfries, Dundee, Dunfermline, Falkirk, Glasgow, Kilmarnock, Inverness, Perth, Port Glasgow and Stirling.
