Homeware sales fell again on the high street, marking a second straight week of negative sales.
According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose 0.25% for the week ending 4 May 2025.
Homewares total LFLs dropped by -4.57% from a dour base of -8.13% for the same week in 2024, denoting the fifth negative result for the category since the first week of 2025.
Store homewares sales sank by -5.05% from a weak base of -0.09% for the same week last year, representing the category’s eleventh negative outcome since 2025 began.
Total store LFL sales grew +2.83% from a good base of +1.82% for the same week last year. Total non-store LFL sales declined by -6.17% from a strong base of +6.94% for the same week in 2024.
Commenting on the results, BDO said: “Fashion again emerged as the sole segment with a positive outcome this week, as in-store sales ticked up from the flat result for the week prior.
“This week’s weather was dry, mild, warm and largely sunny with very humid conditions, especially in the south, while some parts of the country experienced isolated showers.
“The same week last year, we experienced very warm and sunny weather, as well as episodes of heavy showers and thunderstorms.”
Overall, footfall climbed by +3.7% this week, a growth driven by strong results across all sub-categories, with retail parks leading with an increase of +4.0 %, followed by the high street with +3.7% and shopping centres at 3.4%.
