Independent furniture retailer Glasswells has reported a growth in sales and profit.
According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 26 February 2022, total sales rose 30% to £25.6m from £19.6m in 2021.
Gross profit increased from £9.1m to £12.4m, while pre-tax profit resulted at £2.9m, up from £2.1m recorded the previous year.
Stated within its report, the company said that online sales increased during the period but did not compensate for the closed doors due to the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
When stores reopened, furniture sales were ‘extremely strong, follow by flooring’, Glasswells said, although small goods ‘did not enjoy the same demand’.
“Our staff have been magnificent during another stop start year and their commitment to our company and the customers we server has been very encouraging. All the Glasswell family have been tremendously grateful during another challenging year.”
