Chinese upholstered sofa rejected over fire safety concerns

A Chinese upholstered sofa has been rejected at the UK border after being deemed as a serious fire safety risk.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards has reported that Upholstered Sofa CAAU5029201, with the Consignment Number 24GB4SAEPFVVOT1AR3 and originates from China, presents a serious risk of fire as there is insufficient information to demonstrate that the product has been adequately tested.

The statement said: “The product has been identified as presenting a serious risk of fire. The product was not supplied with the required labelling to demonstrate that they have been adequately compliance tested.

“The absence of such traceability labelling for such a product may increase the risk to the consumer that the product may present an ignition or fire risk.

“The product does not meet the requirements of the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988. The import has been rejected at the border and destroyed.”
