Creditors of 36 furnishing businesses owed over £16m

In the latest Insolvency Digest, creditors of 36 furnishing businesses entering liquidation or administration are expected to suffer a combined shortfall of £16.6m.

John Rimmer and Lauren Auburn, of BRI Business Recovery and Insolvency, were appointed as liquidator of soft furnishings business Soft Furnishings by Mickie Limited on 13 June 2024. The business owes preferential creditor, the HMRC, a total of £32,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £68,000, with a further £29,000 owed in tax. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £100,000.

Nicholas Stratten, of Greenfield Recovery Limited, was appointed liquidator of kitchen furniture manufacturer Hi Speed DIY Limited on 28 June 2024. The business owes preferential creditor, the HMRC, a total of £158,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £405,000, with directors owed £300,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £551,000.

Jamie Playford, of LEADING, was appointed as liquidator of carpet retailer Belgravia Carpets Limited, trading as Sneyd Carpets, on 26 June 2024. The business owes preferential creditor, the HMRC, a total of £13,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £74,000, with NatWest bank owed £35,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £88,000.

Jonathan Philmore, of Philmore & Co Ltd, was appointed as liquidator of carpet retailer Harriet Richmond Limited, trading as Booths Carpets & Furnishings, on 19 June 2024. The business owes preferential creditor, the HMRC, a total of £9,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £139,000, with employees owed £68,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £142,000.

The business owes preferential employee creditor claims a total of £6,000, while the HMRC is also owed £10,000. As for unsecured creditors, these totalled £120,000 with £90,000 owed to employees. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £133,000.

Martin Halligan, of Live Recoveries Limited, was appointed as liquidator of furniture retailer Italian Furniture Discount Stores Ltd on 13 June 2024. The business owes preferential creditor, the HMRC, a total of £29,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £94,000, with Sterling Bank owed £40,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £123,000.
