Dining chairs get recalled over fire safety risks

Two upholstered dining chair bases sold via Amazon, B&Q and Anything4Home have been recalled over fire safety risks.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards has issued a product recall on a white plastic chair base with fabric cushion seat and a tulip Eiffel inspired dining chairs colour patchwork seat base, both from the brand Simpa.

It is unknown of where the products originate, however, the recall is due to both products presenting a risk of fire as, if exposed to a naked flame, the cover could melt and cause the filling to ignite.

The recall said: “The product(s) present a risk of fire because, if the cover of the seat base were to come into contact with a naked flame, it would melt and allow the internal filing to catch fire and continue to flame.

“Improvements were also required to marking and labelling. The product(s) do not meet the regulations of The Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988.”

The products have been recalled from end users, with owners advised to stop using the products immediately and dispose of them safely.
