Scottish discount carpet retailer J&W Carpets has reported a slight increase in sales as profit climbed towards £1m.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 March 2024, total sales rose 0.8% to £12.1m from £12m in 2022.

Pre-tax profit resulted at £948,000, up from £796,000 recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, the business said: “Trading conditions remain competitive resulting in only a small increase in turnover. However gross margin improved but was to a great extent offset by increased overheads. Ever increasing staff costs are challenging for the business.

“It is encouraging that profit for the year has increased although the directors believe the company will do well to improve results for the current year. The strength of the company’s balance sheet will enable it to take advantage of any opportunities which may arise.”
