Exports continue to fall at office furniture manufacturer

Newport based office furniture manufacturer Bisley has reported a reduction in sales while losses narrowed.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 July 2024, total sales fell 9.4% to £61.7m from £68.1m in 2023.

Pre-tax losses resulted at £132,000, narrowing from a loss of £6.6m recorded the previous year. The previous loss stated did include an exceptional energy contract cost of £4.5m as well as a £0.4m employment ownership trust bonus commitment to company staff.

UK sales rose 1% to £30.9m from £30.5m, while EU revenues decreased to £21.5m from £23.6m. Rest of the world sales also declined to £9.2m from £13.8m.

Stated within its report, the company said: “The decline was caused by lower subsidiary trading in difficult overseas markets. UK sales increased whilst sales in our Europe business declined 9% and sales in the rest of the world declined by 33.2%.”
