Family furniture business announces closure

Family furniture business Barnes of Ipswich Ltd, more commonly known now as The Bed Factory, has announced plans to close at the end of next month.

The company, which is currently in its fourth generation of the Barnes family under MD Chloe Last, publicly announced the closure and will cease trading at the end of April.

In a statement, the company said: “Sadly, after much deliberation the decision has been made to close the company. We shall continue trading until the end of April so watch this space for some great clearance deals.

“The decision to close has not been taken lightly at all. The current MD of the company has deliberated for some time but has decided to pursue a career in a different direction. Alongside this it is no secret that retail has been hit hard with the rise of internet shopping, as well as the cost-of-living crisis and whilst the company is still holding its own financially, it has been decided now is the right time for the company to come to an end.

“We expect to close at the end of April. In the mean time the showroom will remain open taking orders as normal.

“Please rest assured that all existing orders will be fulfilled and deliveries are still taking place as normal. We do not want to be left with surplus stock, so everything is being sold at reduced prices.”
