Furnishings retailer trials online textiles takeback scheme

Furnishings and homewares retailer Dunelm has announced a new partnership with The Salvation Army.

The retailer is trialling an online textile takeback scheme with the aim to reduce the amount of textile waste.

As part of the trial, customers who visit Dunelm.com can generate a free shipping label, choose a courier and select a convenient place to drop off their used home textiles, which can come from any brand.

These are then be sent to The Salvation Army to be resold or recycled, with profits retained by the charity.

Items under the trial, which is part of ‘ACT UK’ – a two-year project led by the UK Fashion & Textile Association, include bedding, cushions, throws and blankets, as well as unwanted clothes.

The move also adds to Dunelm’s existing in-store textile takeback scheme that is currently in operation across 175 stores.
