Furniture retail sales increased during June on last month while also rising against an annual comparison.
According to the latest data from the Office for National Statistics, furniture and lighting retail sales rose 21.7% to £1.40bn from £1.15bn in May. Compared to the previous year, sales were up 4.4% from £1.34bn.

Non-store retailer’s sales volumes, which mainly includes online retailers, rose by 1.7% in June 2025, putting sales volumes at their highest level since February 2022. Retailers suggested that promotions and the good weather contributed.
The amount spent online, known as “online spending values”, rose by 2.3% over the month to June 2025, and by 4.5% when comparing June 2025 with June 2024. More broadly, sales values rose by 3.3% when comparing the three months to June 2025 (Quarter 2) with the three months to March 2025 (Quarter 1).
Total spend – the sum of in-store and online sales – rose by 1.1% over the month. As a result, the proportion of sales made online rose from 27.4% in May 2025 to 27.8% in June 2025.
Commenting on the retail sales figures for June, ONS Senior Statistician Hannah Finselbach said: “Following a poor May, it was an improved month for retail sales with growth across all main sectors.
“The warm weather in June helped to brighten sales, with supermarket retailers reporting stronger trading and an increase in drink purchases. It was also a good month for fuel sales as consumers ventured out and about in the sunshine.
“Looking at broader trends, retail sales are up slightly across the latest quarter, but are down when compared with pre-pandemic levels.”
