UK searches of furniture during June were down on last month while searches within mattresses, sofas, garden and nursery furniture proved the most popular.
According to Google search data analysed by Big Furniture Group, three days during June 2024 saw ‘furniture’ searches record an index score of 90 or more, while a score over 80 came in at six days. The highest searched date was 2 June with a full score 100.
Google index’s its search data to 100. This means where 100 is the maximum search interest for the term selected, it is the highest value and indicates a high internet search.
The results saw related searches of ‘garden furniture’ a popular search, while more specific brand terms included ‘Rattan Garden Furniture’, up 4,200%, ‘Homebase’, up 80%, and ‘IKEA’. Other popular terms included ‘nursery furniture’, up 40%, ‘nursery furniture sets’, also up 40%, and ‘IKEA wardrobes’, up 50%. Brands including Daals, The White Company, Shawcross Furniture and Funky Chunky Furniture all saw a spike in searches.
Other search terms Big Furniture Group reviewed included mattresses, bedroom furniture, dining furniture, living room furniture, sofas, carpets and flooring.
Mattresses
Mattress searches recorded 10 peak dates with an index score value of 90 or more. The highest searched date was 9 June with a full score of 100. Related brand searches saw Hypnos, John Lewis, Dormeo, Simba, Emma, Silentnight and DreamCloud all perform strongly. The term ‘mattress shops near me’ saw searches rise 50%, while ‘silentnight memory foam mattress’ searches increased 60% and ‘Emma premium mattress’ rose 50%.
Bedroom furniture
Bedroom furniture searches recorded three days of peak activity with an index value over 90. The highest searched date was 9 June with a full score of 100. Popular brand searches included JYSK, Roseland Furniture, Furniture Village, Oak Furnitureland, Argos, Starplan and Furniture123. The terms ‘sliding door’, ‘built in bedroom furniture’ and ‘fitted bedroom furniture near me’ were breakout searches, while ‘Argos bedroom furniture sets’ searches rose 180%. Meanwhile, ‘fitted bedroom furniture’ and ‘toddler bedroom furniture’ searches rose 60%.
Dining furniture
Dining furniture searches recorded two days of peak activity with an index value over 90. The most searched day was the 2 June, which scored a full 100. Popular brand searches included Furniture Outlet Stores, Loaf, My Furniture, Neptune, Sterling Furniture, Furniture Village and Wayfair. The term ‘swivel’ was a popular search, while ‘kitchen and dining room table’ and ‘furniture village dining tables’ experienced high breakout searches. Another popular term included ‘furniture stores near me’, up 70%.
Living room furniture
Living room furniture saw three peak days during the month. The most searched day was 30 June that scored the full 100 score. Popular brand related searches included Dunelm, DFS and Oak Furnitureland. The terms ‘sofa bed’, ‘window blind’ and ‘footstool’ all performed strongly, while ‘grey’ and ‘lighting’ related searches were up 50% and 80% respectively.
Sofas
Sofa searches saw 10 peak dates, with the highest score of 100 recorded on 30 June. Popular related searches included ‘sofa in a box’, up 90%, ‘sofa on finance’, up 80%, ‘Emma sofa bed’, up 60%, ‘sofa arm covers’, up 50%, and ‘DFS recliner sofa’, up 50%. Other popular terms included ‘recliner sofas UK’, ‘made to measure sofas’ and ‘u shape sofa’. As for brands, popular searches included La-Z-Boy, Snug, Daals, Sofa Club, KC Sofas, Oak Furnitureland, Next, Wayfair and DFS.
Flooring & Carpets
Flooring searches saw 11 days scoring over 90, with the highest dates being 1 and 8 June, scoring the full 100. Carpet searches saw seven days scoring over 90, with the highest date on 1 June scoring the full 100. Popular brand searches included Carpet Warehouse, CFC Flooring, Flooring Hut, DWF, Carpetight, Likewise, Abingdon Flooring, Cormar Carpets, Peter Lee Carpets, Online Carpets, Tapi Carpets, United Carpets and Calverts Carpets. Popular search terms included localised store searches and fitting options.
