UK searches of furniture during September rose on last month, as searches of clearances, beds, mattress toppers and Oak Furnitureland proved the most popular.
According to Google search data analysed by Big Furniture Group, nine days during September 2024 saw ‘furniture’ searches record an index score of 90 or more, while a score over 80 came in at 15 days. The highest searched date was 22 September with a full score 100.
Google index’s its search data to 100. This means where 100 is the maximum search interest for the term selected, it is the highest value and indicates a high internet search.
The results saw related searches of specific brand terms that included ‘Oak Furnitureland’, up 300%, ‘vinterior’, up 200%, and ‘Lawtons furniture’, up 170%. Other popular terms included ‘next furniture clearance’, up 70%, ‘charity furniture shops near me’, up 50%, and ‘dreams beds’, also up 50%, as well as ‘Birlea furniture’, up 40%.
Other search terms Big Furniture Group reviewed included mattresses, bedroom furniture, dining furniture, living room furniture, sofas, carpets and flooring.
Mattresses
Mattress searches recorded six peak dates with an index score value of 90 or more. The highest searched date was 15 September with a full score of 100. Related brand searches saw Simba – up 1,000%, and Silentnight – up 50%. Dormeo, Mattressman, Sleepeezee, Emma, Dunelm and Wayfair were other notable searches. The term ‘mattress brands’ saw searches rise 80%, while ‘orthopaedic mattress topper’ searches increased 50%, ‘heated mattress topper’ searches rose 200% and ‘best mattress topper for back pain’ saw an increase of 40%.
Bedroom furniture
Bedroom furniture searches recorded one day of peak activity with an index value over 90. The highest searched date was 15 September with a full score of 100. Popular brand searches included Next, Barker & Stonehouse, JYSK, Oak Furnitureland, DFS, Wayfair, Furniture 123 and ScS. The terms ‘baby bedroom furniture set’, ‘dark oak bedroom furniture’, ‘oak dressing table’ and ‘bed frames’ searches were all high breakout performers. ‘Bedroom furniture sets with beds’ searches rose 170% and ‘black wardrobe’ increased 200%. Meanwhile, ‘wooden bedroom furniture sets’ searches rose 250% and ‘corner wardrobe’ searches rose 120%. ‘White and oak bedroom furniture’ and ‘grey gloss bedroom furniture’ searches both rose 110%.
Dining furniture
Dining furniture searches recorded one day of peak activity with an index value over 90. The most searched day was the 8 September, which scored a full 100. Popular brand searches included Furniturebox, Dwell, Oak Furnitureland, Wayfair, Next, Roseland, The Range, Very, Sterling Furniture, West Elm, Loaf and Furniture Village. The term ‘dining bench with back’ rose 2,600%, while ‘reclaimed wood dining table’ rose 2,400%. Searches of ‘oval dining table for 6’ also increased over 2,000%.
Living room furniture
Living room furniture saw two peak days during the month. The most searched day was 15 September that scored the full 100 score. Popular brand related searches included Sterling Furniture, ScS, Habitat, Next, Dusk and IKEA. The terms ‘fitted living room furniture’, ‘armchairs for living room’, ‘livingroom furniture’ and ‘corner unit living room’ were all breakout searches.
Sofas
Sofa searches saw two peak dates, with the highest score of 100 recorded on 29 September. Popular related searches included ‘affordable sofas’, up 450%, ‘sofa club outlet’, up 4,600%, ‘throw blanket’, up 90% and ‘sofa bargain’, up 50%. As for brands, popular searches included Daals, Oak Furnitureland, Snug, Zara Home, Sofa and Chair Company, Sofa Club, Swyft, Wayfair and Sofa.com.
Flooring & Carpets
Flooring searches saw 22 days scoring over 90, with the highest date being 7 September, scoring the full 100. Carpet searches saw six days scoring over 90, with the highest date on 10 September scoring the full 100. Popular brand searches included Brintons, Pay Weekly Carpets, United Carpets, Tapi Carpets, KJC Carpets, Dunelm, Flooring Direct, Ted Todd Flooring, DWF Flooring and Karndean. Popular search terms included ‘dunelm carpets’, up 60%, ‘bedroom carpets’, up 40%, ‘commercial vinyl flooring’ and ‘vynal flooring’.
