UK searches of furniture during July were up on last month with searches of mattresses, sofas and bedroom furniture proving the most popular.
According to Google search data analysed by Big Furniture Group, six days during July 2024 saw ‘furniture’ searches record an index score of 90 or more, while a score over 80 came in at 16 days. The highest searched date was 28 July with a full score 100.
Google index’s its search data to 100. This means where 100 is the maximum search interest for the term selected, it is the highest value and indicates a high internet search.
The results saw related searches of ‘garden furniture’ a popular search, while more specific brand terms included ‘Dwell furniture’, up 130%, ‘M&S furniture sale’, up 130%, and ‘HSL furniture’, up 90%. Other popular terms included ‘dining chair’, up 50%, ‘Sterling Furniture’, also up 50%, and ‘Sofology’, up 40%. Brands including CFS Furniture, Furniture Village, Tesco and Funky Chunky Furniture all saw a spike in searches.
Other search terms Big Furniture Group reviewed included mattresses, bedroom furniture, dining furniture, living room furniture, sofas, carpets and flooring.
Mattresses
Mattress searches recorded five peak dates with an index score value of 90 or more. The highest searched date was 27 July with a full score of 100. Related brand searches saw Simba, MattressOnline – up 130%, Mattressman (up 50%), MattressNextDay (up 80%) and Furniture Village (up 40%) all perform strongly. The term ‘best mattress’ saw searches rise 400%, while ‘bamboo mattress topper’ searches increased 70%, ‘are Emma mattresses good’ searches rose 550% and ‘mattress protector’ saw high search data.
Bedroom furniture
Bedroom furniture searches recorded one day of peak activity with an index value over 90. The highest searched date was 7 July with a full score of 100. Popular brand searches included Benson for Beds, IKEA, Sharps, Wickes, Dreams, Dusk and Dunelm. The terms ‘3 piece bedroom furniture set’ and ‘bedroom furniture sets with bed’ were breakout searches, while ‘IKEA wardrobes’ searches rose 120% and ‘modern bedroom furniture’ searches increased 110%. Meanwhile, ‘cream bedroom furniture’ and ‘mirrored bedroom furniture’ searches rose 80% and 60% respectively.
Dining furniture
Dining furniture searches recorded one day of peak activity with an index value over 90. The most searched day was the 21 July, which scored a full 100. Popular brand searches included Wayfair, The Range, AMC Furniture, DFS, Furniture Choice, B&M, Sterling Furniture and Oak Furnitureland. The term ‘dining room table and chairs’ rose 90%, while ‘marble dining table’ rose 60%. Searches of ‘oak dining chairs’ and ‘dining tables and chairs’ increased 50%.
Living room furniture
Living room furniture saw two peak days during the month. The most searched day was 7 July that scored the full 100 score. Popular brand related searches included John Lewis, The Range and Oak Furnitureland. The terms ‘furniture retailer’ (up 150%), ‘sideboard’ (up 110%) and ‘living room ideas’ (up 50%) all performed strongly, while ‘velvet’ and ‘garden furniture’ related searches were up 160% and 100% respectively.
Sofas
Sofa searches saw seven peak dates, with the highest score of 100 recorded on 21 July. Popular related searches included ‘Laura Ashley sofas at Next’, ‘Argos clearance sofas’, ‘DFS clearance sofas’, up 180%, ‘ScS sofa sale’, up 180%, and ‘pay monthly sofas’, up 150%. Other popular terms included ‘quick delivery sofas UK’, ‘high backed sofas’ and ‘u shape sofa’. As for brands, popular searches included Sofa Club, Darlings of Chelsea, Futon Sofa Company, Next, Laura Ashley, Parkner Knoll, Heals, HSL, ercol, Swyft, DFS, G Plan and The Cotswold Furniture Company.
Flooring & Carpets
Flooring searches saw 11 days scoring over 90, with the highest date being 27 July, scoring the full 100. Carpet searches saw 10 days scoring over 90, with the highest date on 13 July scoring the full 100. Popular brand searches included Forbo, Kardean, J2 Flooring, Carpetright, ScS, Cormar Carpets, Tapi Carpets and Carpet King. Popular search terms included localised store searches and fitting options.
