Homeware sales declined on the high street again, marking an eleventh negative week.
According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose by 18.61% for the week ending 26 June 2022.
Total Homeware LFLs fell by 10.80% this week, with in store sales also declining by 7.19%. This week marks the category’s eleventh consecutive negative LFL since April 2022, as well as the second negative in store LFL for homewares following three consecutive weeks of positive LFLs.
Total in-store LFL sales grew by +18.79% from a base of +145.35% for the same week last year. Total non-store LFL sales climbed by +15.04% from a base of +7.36% for the same week last year.
Commenting on the results, the BDO said: “The weather this week was hot mid-week with temperatures up in the mid to high twenties while the weekend brought light rainfall in some parts of the UK. The same week last year saw a heatwave sweep across the UK.”
On the whole, footfall was up by +14.5% this week compared to the corresponding week last year.
Footfall on the high street grew by +19.5%, while shopping centres saw footfall rise by +16.6% and retail parks experienced a +1.6% change in footfall following two consecutive weeks of negative results.
