Homeware high street sales begin July positively

Homeware sales returned to growth on the high street, indicating a third positive result in the last few weeks.

According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose 11.66% for the week ending 6 July 2025.

Homewares total LFLs rose by +5.09% from a poor base of -3.32% for the same week in 2024, denoting the category’s third positive result in the past five weeks.

Store homewares sales dipped by -2.14% from a solid base of -4.05% for the same week last year, while non[1]store sales for homewares saw a third consecutive negative outcome, dropping by -7.23% from a weak base -3.06%.

Total store LFL sales grew by +4.28% from a base of -0.42% for the same week in 2024. Total non-store LFL sales skyrocketed by +15.56% from a strong base of +8.80% for the same week last year.

Commenting on the results, BDO said: “Both store and non-store sales achieved positive LFL growth outcomes this week, with fashion leading among segments.

“This week began with the heatwave that had been affecting the country since late June, before shifting to cooler and wetter conditions by the end of the week.

“The same week last year, however, experienced cooler-than-average temperatures, with a mix of unsettled weather and brief warm spells.”

Overall footfall declined by -1.3% compared to the same week last year. High street footfall dropped by -1.6%, while foot traffic to shopping centers and retail parks decreased by -1.1% and -0.9% respectively.
