Homeware high street sales deliver positive start to 2025

Homeware sales rose on the high street, indicating the category’s eighth positive result in the last 10 weeks.

According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose 18.54% for the week ending 5 January 2025.

Total homewares LFL sales grew by +9.34% this week from a base of -11.56% for the same week last year, representing the category’s eighth positive result in the last 10 weeks.

Store sales jumped by +12.00% from a base of -10.64% for the same week last year, symbolising the category’s sixth positive outcome in the last 10 weeks.

Total in-store LFL sales jumped by +15.16% from a base of +0.48%. Total non-store LFL sales ballooned by +19.12% from a base of -0.72% for the same week last year.

Commenting on the results, BDO said: “Sales online and in brick-and-mortar venues saw significant growth in a week that began with the final three days of 2024 and included New Year’s Eve celebration and New Year’s bank holiday.

“The UK saw a wet and windy end to the year while starting 2025 with frosty conditions caused by widespread snow, ice and sleet. During the same week last year, the weather was unsettled with strong winds and rain but eased to drier conditions.”
