Homeware sales fell on the high street for a second consecutive week.
According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales fell 3.52% for the week ending 29 June 2025.
Homewares total LFL sales fell by -1.92% this week from a grim base of -7.60% for the same week last year, representing the second consecutive negative outcome for the category.
Store LFL sales for homewares sales jumped by +7.22%, offsetting a weak base of -3.51% for the same week last year, marking the category’s third positive outcome in the past five weeks.
Total in-store LFL sales dropped by -2.08% this week from a base of +1.51% for the same week last year. Total non-store LFL sales dipped by -3.39% this week from a base of +18.27% for the same week in 2024.
Commenting on the results, BDO said: “This week’s total LFL sales results mark the first negative performance after five straight positive weeks, as both store and non-store sales results saw weak outcomes. Total non-store LFL sales tripped into negative territory for the first time after enjoying five consecutive positive weeks.
“The weather this week was marked by dry, settled weather with plenty of sunshine and intense heat, with temperatures reaching the high 20s. The same week last year saw cooler temperatures and overcast skies with a brief period of warm spells.”
Overall footfall decreased by -1.3% this week, as foot traffic on high streets went down by -1.6%, and shopping centers and retail parks experienced declines of -0.9% and -1.1% respectively.
