Homeware sales rose again on the high street for a fifth consecutive week.
According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose 9.57% for the week ending 3 August 2025.
Homewares total LFLs climbed by +9.80% from a base of -4.67% for the same week in 2024, extending the category’s streak of positive outcomes to five consecutive weeks.
Store homewares sales skyrocketed by +23.30% offsetting a weak base of -1.81%, marking the category’s third consecutive positive result and its highest growth since the final week of December 2024, while non-store sales for homewares saw its first negative outcome in three weeks, falling by -4.50% from a base of -15.18%.
Total store LFL sales climbed by +7.04% from a flat base of +0.79% for the same week last year. Total non-store LFL sales jumped by +14.09% from a base of +3.46% for the same week last year.
Commenting on the results, BDO said: “Retail sales improved across all segments this week, with total fashion posting double-digit growth due to strong outcomes in online sales.
“Total homewares clinched a fifth consecutive positive week, as store sales recorded the highest growth outcome since the end of December 2024.
“This week was characterised by a mix of sunny, dry, and showery conditions in the south, while the north experienced strong winds, heavy rains, and thunderstorms from Storm Floris.
“The same week last year saw the UK weather transition from cooler and drier conditions to warmer and wetter weather.”
Overall footfall increased by +0.7%, a growth led by foot traffic to shopping centers (+1.3%), while high streets and retail parks equally saw positive footfall outcomes, +0.7% and +0.1% respectively.
