IKEA closes Tottenham store after 17 years

Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has closed its Tottenham store for the final time.

The north London store officially closed on 31 August 2022 after running a ‘farewell festival’ for shoppers in the months leading to its closure.

IKEA said it closed the store due to ‘changing shopping behaviours’ relating to the increase of sales being made online, and follows the opening of a smaller format store in Hammersmith earlier this year as part of a £1bn investment strategy in London.

Commenting on the closure, IKEA added: “Sorry, we’ve closed IKEA Tottenham’s doors for the last time. For over 17 years, we’ve served millions of customers with meatballs, hot dogs and BILLY bookshelves.

“We appreciate all of the support you have given to this store over the years, and hopefully this can continue with some exciting developments coming to IKEA in London. In February we opened a new, smaller format store in Hammersmith and look forward to opening our new store on Oxford Street next autumn.”

IKEA also said it will redeploy as many of the store’s 450 employees as possible.
