Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has opened its new Plan & Order Point in Clifton Moor Retail Park, York.
Officially opened on Friday 29 August 2025, the new store was marked with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Luke Charters MP, The Rt Hon Lord Mayor of York, Councillor Martin Rowley BEM, and all the new store’s 12 co-workers.
The Plan & Order Point is a smaller store dedicated to kitchen and bedroom planning, where customers can visit for home furnishing advice and expertise to help design their ideal space. Customers can book an appointment, free of charge, to start their design journey with one of the York store’s six planning specialists or use the in-store self-service tools to design their own solution.

Despite being smaller than a standard ‘blue box’, the store is packed with the inspiration expected from IKEA. In total, customers will find 11 different kitchens to browse for inspiration, from a complete kitchen including oven and hob for under £1800, to innovative pantry solutions that meet the storage needs of all households, as well as an appliance studio.
The unit also houses a home furnishing planning area and nine bespoke PAX wardrobe solutions, each designed to provide inspiration on how to maximise spaces through storage solutions.
At IKEA Plan and Order Points, customers can order from the entire IKEA product range, with the option for next day collection or home delivery. The store will also offer a collection area for orders made online, as well as providing a service for customers wanting to return any IKEA purchase.

Conor Doherty, IKEA Market Manager, said: “We’re thrilled to open the doors to our new IKEA Plan and Order Point in York. This welcoming space is designed to inspire; offering a chance to explore our unique kitchen ranges and smart storage solutions. It’s the perfect place to discover IKEA’s extensive selection of affordable home products, suited to every budget. Plus, it provides a convenient new location for collecting online orders and purchases from our Hull and Leeds stores.”
The Rt Hon Lord Mayor of York, Councillor Martin Rowley BEM, added: “IKEA’s new Plan and Order point in York is a welcome boost for the local economy and high street. It reflects growing confidence in our region’s potential and will bring valuable footfall, partnerships, and opportunities for the wider business community.”

The opening in York is part of IKEA’s wider UK expansion plan, which will see another Plan and Order Point open in Dundee and a small store in Chester in the coming months. This follows the recent opening of a Plan and Order point in Hull, small stores in Harlow and Norwich, and a city store in Brighton.
