Irish furniture retail sales showed an annual and monthly growth in both volume and value.
According to the latest Retail Sales Index data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) for April 2025, furniture and lighting sales saw an annual volume growth of 6.7%. On a monthly comparison, sales rose 1.5%.
The value of furniture and lighting retail sales rose 4.7% month-on-month as well as increasing by 2.3% on an annual basis.
Department stores saw annual volume decline 5.6%, while month-on-month delivered an uptick of 6.4%. As for the value, this rose 0.4% on a monthly basis, as well as up by 2.5% annually.
Overall, the monthly volume of Irish Retail Sales rose 1.1% in April 2025 and increased by 3% in the year when compared with April 2024.
The value of Retail Sales rose by 1.3% in the month and by 3.5% in the 12 months to April 2025.
The proportion of Retail Sales transacted online (from Irish registered companies) was 5.0% in April 2025 and 4.8% in March 2025, compared with 5.6% in April 2024.
Tommy Allen, Statistician in the Enterprise Statistics Division, said: “The volume of Retail Sales rose by 1.1% in April 2025 when compared with March 2025 on a seasonally adjusted basis. On an annual basis, retail volumes were 3.0% higher than in April 2024.
“When Motor Trades are excluded, the volume of Retail Sales fell by 0.1% in the month and increased by 1.1% in the year when compared with April 2024.
“Sectors showing monthly volume increases were Department Stores (+6.4%), Books, Newspapers & Stationery (+2.0%), Furniture & Lighting (+1.5%), Food, Beverages & Tobacco (Specialised Stores) (+1.3%), and Bars (+0.3%).
“The largest monthly volume decreases were recorded in Clothing, Footwear & Textiles (-1.4%), Other Retail Sales (-1.1%), and Electrical Goods (-1.1%).”
