Japanese furniture company Okamura Corporation has announced that it has acquired British contract furniture design and manufacturing business Boss Design.
The acquisition is for 100% of the shares issued by Boss Design Limited and will now be a wholly owned subsidiary of the company.
The Okamura Group has positioned “expansion of overseas businesses rooted in local markets” as a key policy in its medium-term management plan.
Through partnerships, joint ventures, and M&A with leading local business partners, the group is working to expand its operations based on a localised production and consumption model.
“With this acquisition, Okamura aims to enhance its product lineup in its overseas business by incorporating loose furniture, an area of strength for Boss Design, in addition to its core product, task seating,” the group said.
“Furthermore, by leveraging Boss Design’s established business foundation in the UK, European, and US markets, along with Okamura’s presence in the Japanese and Asian markets, the two companies will work together to expand product sales, explore new markets, and drive further growth in Okamura’s overseas business.”
Boss Design added: “We’re excited to announce that Boss Design has joined forces with Okamura, a world leader in ergonomic and sustainable workplace solutions.
“This acquisition is not a change, but an evolution – combining Boss Design’s expertise in soft seating and pods with Okamura’s strength in precision-engineered workspace solutions.”
