The rate of furniture production during June 2024 registered a monthly decline, whilethe value in domestic goods fell on the previous month and against last year.
According to the latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) data, the rate of furniture production fell slightly by 0.5% compared to May, while falling 0.4% on June last year.
Production output is estimated to have fallen by 0.1% in the three months to June 2024 compared with the three months to March 2024.
On the month, production output is estimated to have grown by 0.8% in June 2024, following growth of 0.3% in May 2024 (revised up from 0.2%).
Meanwhile, the value of the manufacture of furniture for June resulted at £801.4m, down 7% from £861.8m in May. Against the same period last year, the value fell 0.4% from £805.2m.
As for the value of furniture manufacturer exports, this decreased 11.4% to £48.1m for the month from £54.3m. Against last year, exports value fell 2.6% from £49.4m.
The value of domestic furniture manufacture decreased 6.7% to £753.3m from £807.5m in the month, while down 0.3% from £755.8m last year.
Monthly real gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated to have shown no growth in June 2024, following unrevised growth of 0.4% in May 2024.
Commenting on the GDP figures, ONS Director of Economic Statistics Liz McKeown said: “The UK economy has now grown strongly for two quarters, following the weakness we saw in the second half of last year.
“Growth across the three months was led by the service sector, where scientific research, the IT industry and legal services all did well.
“In June growth was flat with services falling, due to a weak month for health, retailing and wholesaling, offset by widespread growth in manufacturing.”
