June 2025 furniture production shows slight uptick on last year

The rate of furniture production during June 2025 registered a slight monthly decline, while the value in domestic goods fell on the previous month but rose against last year.

According to the latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) data, the rate of furniture production fell by 0.8% compared to May, while up 0.9% on June last year.

Overall, production output is estimated to have grown by 0.7% in June 2025, following a fall of 1.3% in May 2025 and showing no growth in April 2025. The growth in June 2025 was mainly driven by manufacturing output which increased by 0.5%.

Meanwhile, the value of the manufacture of furniture for June resulted at £840.6m, down 1.2% from £851.4m in May. Against the same period last year, the value increased 5.6% from £795.7m.

As for the value of furniture manufacturer exports, this decreased 11.5% to £39.9m for the month from £45.1m. Against last year, exports value fell 5.4% from £42.2m.

The value of domestic furniture manufacture decreased 0.6% to £800.7m from £806.3m in the month, while up 6.2% from £753.5m last year.

Monthly real gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated to have grown by 0.4% in June 2025, following an unrevised fall of 0.1% in May 2025 and a fall of 0.1% in April 2025.

Commenting on the GDP figures for June, ONS Director of Economic Statistics Liz McKeown said: “Growth slowed in the second quarter after a strong start to the year. The economy was weak across April and May, with some activity having been brought forward to February and March ahead of Stamp Duty and tariff changes, but then recovered strongly in June.

“Across the second quarter as a whole growth was led by services, with computer programming, health and vehicle leasing growing. Construction also increased while production fell back slightly. Growth for the quarter was also boosted by updated source data for April, which while still showing a contraction, was better than initially estimated.

“Services also drove growth in June with scientific R&D, engineering and car sales all having a strong month. Within production, which recovered, manufacture of electronics performed especially well.”
