JYSK opens its first stores in Africa

Danish furniture retailer JYSK has continued its expansion with the opening of its first stores in Africa.

Since opening its very first store in Denmark in 1979, JYSK has grown to more than 3,500 stores. Now, the Danish home furnishing chain expands to a new continent and a new market in Morocco, where the first two stores will open on 10 April.

“Expansion is part of our DNA, and we are very excited to introduce JYSK and our great offers to customers in Morocco and to see how it will be received on this new continent,” says JYSK President & CEO, Rami Jensen.

JYSK will start by opening two stores, including a webshop, and by the end of the year, the number of physical stores is expected to increase to three.

The first two stores will open in Viva Park and Aeria Mall, located at opposite ends of Casablanca. In addition, from 10 April, customers will also be able to shop online at jysk.ma.

With the opening in Morocco, JYSK will be present in 50 countries. Of these 50 countries, 29 are operated directly by JYSK, including Morocco, while the remaining 21 are operated by JYSK’s franchise business.

“We are very proud to reach several milestones at JYSK with our first stores in Africa and our presence in 50 countries. This shows that we are still on the right track and that our investment in expansion is a great success. I look forward to the opening and to being in Morocco at what I hope will be a grand opening celebration in both new stores in Casablanca,” says Rami Jensen.

Even though the stores have not yet opened, there has already been significant interest in JYSK in Morocco. In February, the home furnishing chain reported that over 5,000 applications had been submitted for the approximately 50 positions created so far in Morocco.
