This month marks a historic milestone for JYSK when the Danish home furnishing chain’s first store opens in the greater metropolitan area of Montevideo in Uruguay.
The store is part of JYSK’s franchise business and will be operated by a local franchisee. At the end of March, JYSK Franchise is not only opening a new store — it is also entering a completely new country and a whole new continent for the Danish home furnishing chain.
The store opening on Saturday 22 March in Canelones just north of Montevideo is a very special milestone for JYSK Franchise, as it marks the first time in JYSK’s history that a store opens in South America.

“I cannot wait to get started with our opening in Uruguay, which is an interesting market. I am really looking forward to the opening — it is always a unique event no matter where it happens, and I especially look forward to meeting and seeing the customers’ reactions to JYSK. Uruguay is a country with political and economic stability, and we have found a very good franchisee in Antelo Group, whom we look forward to collaborating with,” says JYSK Franchise Director, Frederik Kroun.
“The vast majority of Uruguay’s population lives in the southern part of the country along the coast, making the area around Montevideo an ideal place to start. I am excited to see what we will learn from the new market. We are already looking into where store number two could be located, and we expect it will also be in greater Montevideo area, though the final decision has not been made yet. From here, we will evaluate our openings and consider where we can further expand.”
