Morleys of Wales appointed FF&E specialist for community hub in Swansea

Morleys of Wales has been appointed as the FF&E (furniture, fixtures, and equipment) specialist for Y Storfa, a landmark community hub currently under development on the former BHS site on Oxford Street in Swansea city centre.

The hub is part of a major regeneration initiative aimed at revitalising the area and delivering a range of vital services for the local community.

Designed as a vibrant, multi-purpose facility, Y Storfa will offer a central library, children’s library, lifelong learning centre, flexible workspaces, and other essential public services. The project is expected to create new jobs and provide an inclusive space that supports education, wellbeing, and digital inclusion.

Morleys of Wales, a division of the Morleys Group with over 90 years of experience in supporting education and public sector clients, is delivering a full-service FF&E solution, from interior design and furniture specification to project management and installation.

Sian Langton, Sales Manager at Morleys of Wales, expressed her pride in contributing to the project: “As a long-time Swansea resident and with our office based in Uplands, I’m incredibly proud to be part of such a transformative local development. This hub is going to make a real difference in the community.”

Since 2024, Morleys of Wales has been working in collaboration with Kier and Swansea Council to bring the vision for Y Storfa to life. Operating in BIM Level 2, Morleys has been able to seamlessly coordinate interior layouts with the architect and project team, from space planning and clash detection to detailed mood boards and 3D visualisations, ensuring a coherent and efficient design process.

Harriet Newman, FF&E Design Consultant at Morleys, shared her enthusiasm for the project: “This has been an inspiring project to work on. We’ve focused on creating dynamic, functional, and uplifting spaces with a clear identity throughout the building. Sustainability has been a priority as well – we’ve partnered with manufacturers who champion recycled materials and sustainable design principles to ensure a circular-economy approach.”

From bespoke fitted units and reception counters to loose furniture, every product has been carefully selected for durability, ergonomics, and visual synergy with the overall design. The result is a space that is both welcoming and inclusive for a diverse range of users.

Sian added: “Our expertise in furniture design and our access to global supply networks have allowed us to deliver solutions that meet the specific needs of each space while maintaining a high-quality finish. We’re excited to see the hub come to life.”

Adam Smith, Managing Director of Morleys, shared his thoughts on the contract award: “We are honoured to have been awarded this contract and to contribute to the creation of a truly meaningful space at the heart of a vibrant community that means so much to us. With a dedicated team based locally and strong relationships with Welsh manufacturers, we’re proud to support the regional economy through this project.”

He adds: “Beyond the design and delivery of the space, our team, led by Sian and Harriet, has also partnered with Kier Group to champion charitable initiatives, including fundraising and foodbank contributions, in line with the project’s social value commitments. We’re confident that Y Storfa will become a place where the community comes together with a shared sense of belonging and pride.”

Installation of FF&E is already underway, and Y Storfa is progressing well to programme, marking a major milestone in Swansea’s city centre regeneration.
