New stores show encouraging signs at Sofas & Stuff

Bespoke furniture business Sofas & Stuff has reported another year of strong sales despite a slight decline.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 December 2024, total sales fell 3.4% to £25m from £25.9m in 2023.

Sales were predominantly UK-based, down 2.7% from £25.5m to £24.8m, while EU sales increased to £201,000 from £105,000.

Pre-tax profit resulted at £372,000, down from £909,000 recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said: “2024 in many respects was an outlier year for Sofas & Stuff, profits wise, coming as it did during the slow down in consumer spending and coinciding with the final year of substantial losses in our recently set up manufacturing division.

“Delivered sales in the second half were materially less than expected due to 25% of December’s expected deliveries being delayed into January 2025, and next year’s financial statements, with the resultant upside for 2025.

“This year saw the opening of two very important, but different types of store, for the group. The Kings Road flagship store opened in the spring, bringing our unique “Choice not Compromise” offer to central London for the first time. Trade has been brisk and will hit budget in its first year, adding materially to the group’s bottom line in 2025.

“The second store in Bruton in Somerset, saw the group experimenting with a far smaller store footprint. Make this footprint work and the opportunity to open in locations with large high net worth customers, grows exponentially. The results are really encouraging, with the store trading 15% above budget.”
