Norfolk department store group grows sales; profit down

The parent company of Holt-based home furnishings department store retailer Bakers & Larners has reported a growth in turnover.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 28 February 2025, total sales rose 2.7% to £22.5m from £21.9m in 2024.

The group said that retail sales rose 4.8% to £17.4m from £16.6m, while builders merchant revenues remained flat at £5m.

Pre-tax profit resulted at £257,000, down from £856,000 on the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said: “The Budgens store in Holt had another successful year as it continued to reestablish its new store following its reopening in March 2023, with an increase in turnover of 9%, offset by a decrease of 5% in Aylsham, due to a decrease in footfall.

“Other retail sales held up well and actually increased year on year by 4% whilst the builders merchant division sales remained consistent, with a 0.5% increase.”
