Northern Irish independent furniture retailer House of Murphy has submitted a planning application to rebuild its store that suffered a devastating fire just under a year ago.
The business saw its premises on Greenbank Industrial Estate in Newry completely gutted by an accidental fire that broke out back in July 2024.
House of Murphy, which has been established since 1974 and also has a store in Dundalk, has now submitted plans to Newry, Mourne and Down District Council to rebuild a new store of the same size on the exact site.
The plans, submitted by Messrs Murphy on behalf of the business, also include doubling its car park space from 20 to 41.
At the time of fire, six appliances from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) as well as over 50 personnel helped extinguish the blaze which is understood to have started at the adjacent Formula Karting before spreading to other units.
