Online surge boosts performance at tile retailer

Independent wall and floor tile importer and retailer Al-Murad has reported a growth in sales as turnover surpassed £40m.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 March 2021, total sales rose 10.2% to £43m from £39m in 2020.

Gross profit increased from £17.9m to £22.3m, while pre-tax profit resulted at £12.7m, significantly up from £2.9m recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company, which operates across 40 stores and 30 family run franchises throughout the UK, said that performance exceeded expectations as DIY and home renovations surged during the pandemic.

“The core growth came from online platforms as consumers were directed to shop online during the various government imposed lockdowns during the year,” the business said.

“The company was able to maintain supply and selling prices due to readily available stock at its warehouse and as such improving the overall gross margin for the year.”
