Restaurant plans approved to replace Chippenham bed store

Beds and mattress retailer Bensons for Beds could be set to close its Chippenham store after plans were approved to replace it with a restaurant.

Aegon UK Property Fund, owners of the Hathaway Retail Park in Chippenham, previously submitted planning documents to Wiltshire Council aiming to change the use of the building to mixed restaurant and takeaway use.

The unit is currently occupied by Bensons for Beds, with the retailer stating back in August last year it was “aware” of the application and has “no plans” to move.

The application, which doesn’t identify a future tenant, has now been approved and will be the sites first eat-in venue.

The 5,000sqft unit is currently described as “under offer” on estate agents Savills website, which has been marketed for let for the past few months.

Bensons declined to comment at the time of publication.
