Rising costs impact bedroom furniture wholesaler

Bedroom products importer FWG has reported a decline in turnover as well as growing losses.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 March 2022, total sales fell 17.6% to £21.5m from £26.1m in 2021. Pre-tax losses resulted at £304,000, widening from £7,000 recorded in the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said that the year was one of its “most challenging to date” due to the impact of the pandemic and shipping pressures, which saw costs rise from $2,500 per container to $18,000 at its peak. This meant the company was only able to ship 15% of its available orderbook.

To mitigate the supply issues, the business did find some success in sourcing UK manufactured goods, while the overall events of the year impacted sales and profitability. “Pressure on rising commodity costs worldwide coupled with difficult price negotiations with customers continue to impact,” the company added.
