Sales and profit declines at furniture wholesaler

Furniture wholesale business Julian Bowen has reported a decline in sales and profit.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 December 2023, total sales fell 40% to £32.6m from £55.1m in 2022, back to similar revenues achieved in 2021 at £35.7m.

Pre-tax profit resulted at £4.9m, down from £8.6m recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said that UK sales fell 40.6% to £31.2m from £52.6m, while EU revenues decreased 45% to £1.3m from £2.4m.

“The directors consider that the results for the year and the financial position at the end of the year represent a strong performance, particularly in view of the economic climate in general driven by continued geo-political events which have impacted supply chains worldwide,” the business added.

“Across the year the business has continued to invest in our service delivery with the completion of our warehouse racking project and our customer web portal.”
