Unnamed furniture business to open in Swindon

A new furniture store is expected to open in Swindon after plans were approved by the council.

According to planning documents submitted to Swindon Borough Council, plans to a change the use from an industrial office to 15,000sqft retail warehousing for the sale of bulky goods with associated offices and parking has been given the green light.

The store will be situated at 1 Garrard Way, on the edge of Greenbridge Retail Park, and will create around 50 new jobs for the area.

The plans state: “This would facilitate the sale of bulky goods furniture as part of a new business which is seeking to locate its headquarters within Swindon.

“This site represents the opportunity to provide sufficient floorspace for furniture sales alongside the ancillary office space required to facilitate the operations of the headquarters for a business of this type.

“The proposal does not include the storage of furniture stock within the site, with purchases to be delivered from existing stock at a distribution facility in the Midlands.”

Swindon Borough Council have now approved the plans, which were filed by Dentons Pension Management Ltd. The furniture business has not been named in the report.
