West Elm owner sees UK sales decline once again

The UK division of home furnishings retailer Williams-Sonoma, owner of the West Elm brand, has reported a decline in sales.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 28 January 2024, total sales fell 34% to £15.1m from £22.9m in 2023. Profit resulted at £423,000, down from £712,000 recorded in the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said that sales decreased due ceasing operations for one of its three retail stores in 2023, while it also ended its wholesale shop-in-shop partnership with its largest retail partner during the same year.

Cost of sales increased to 61% from 57% due to “higher input costs compared to the decline in sales”, the business added.
