The British government has compiled a list of around 8,000 US products that could potentially be subject to new tariffs.
Following Donald Trump’s global trade policy announcement, the US President has issued a 10% tariff on UK-made goods entering the country. Other countries, including the EU, have seen higher tariffs of 20% on imports to the US.
In response, the government has drawn up an ‘indicative list’ of US products that it could levy tariffs on. Within this list, impacting the furnishing sector includes seats and seat parts, as well as mattresses, desks, sleeping bags, quilts, bedding, lighting and chandeliers.
“This is an indicative product list to demonstrate what products may be subject to any future UK tariff response,” the report states. “The inclusion of a product on this list does not mean that it will appear in a UK tariff response, should the UK choose to respond with tariffs.”
Furthermore, carpets and textile floor materials, textile wallcoverings, blankets, travelling rugs, table linen and bedlinen are also included.
